  nairn ... oh yes I see I can do
  that with just a fill layer and dependency -THANKS!

  I do think Photoshop is screwed up a bit because now I am also
  freezing on "Fill" - "Color"

  So must trash preferences or something and restart.
  Will wait 'till Monday as you suggest.
