I think kelpie touched upon it. It's all cyclical I say. Soon we will all be up to our necks with the next new thing.

but the original reason must be a backlash against all the super futuristic stuff that was about immediately before it, no? then it just sort of snowballed. I remember people aaaages ago asking me to do things for them and make it 'organic'' cos they were fed up with all the sci-fi crap about (this was for electronic music peeps), so I did, then I realised loads of people had been asked to do the same thing, then all hell broke loose.
