The way I see it, the different forums offer different things. The PV-AN is (for me) a quick and easy thing, where I post mostly for fast answers, or fast crits...
I'm also a regular on YayHooray, where I get my fix of more in-depth discussions and collaborative projects.
And I pop by Typophile when I need typographic help or want to check out fonts in progress and stuff.
I think that if you investigate the forums that are out there, you will find that there's not too many of them, they are just targeted different. Find your favourite and stick to it.
