I like that PJ Harvey was nominated in '93 and '95 but was up against people that were actually good. It took until '01 when there was no real competition for her to win (ok, radiohead should have won that year). She's kind of a case in point about how the competition has deteriorated.
I'd rather watch BBC young musician of the year any day.
You get more musical talent in that competition than in all the MMPs put together, and all BBC YMOTY entrants are under 18.
