Oh man. engagements/weddings are evil. God thank the stars I married a pratical woman..she waved off the entire engagement ring ("waste of money" in her words - the money went into our savings account). We had two tiny ceremonies in two countries, just close friends, immediate family, no big receptions, but flew a few people around the globe. Bought nice wedding rings, and put off the honeymoon for a while (more vacation time thing than anything else) but spent four days in Vegas. Awesome time all around, low pressure and we started our lives together with a nice nest egg.
the whole big wedding/big diamond thing is such a scam that has absolutely nothing to do with love or marriage..glad I met a woman who felt the same way :)
