unfortunatly you will have to at least rener a little out at full res so you can check your keying but like the bold and mighty F_18 said drop your preview and playback resolution to 1/2 etc. this will help you get an idea if it is at least working correctly.
What kind of HD footage is it please?. Full HDCAM Uncompressed or HDV what codecs have you used on your source material, if you can't see anything then perhaps there is a more seriouse issue at hand that needs to be adressed......
