When I lived in the US my wife and I used to go to this grocery place in Brooklyn. There was a Syrian woman working there. She worked for an Egytian guy for such long hours, she went on for 8 months before she went to Manhattan for the first time.

She was very educated, had a Masters in English and BA in art history.

She once asked us where we were from. When we told her "Israel", she went silent. After a couple of times she started talking with us again. She said she could not imagine Israelies could be normal people (well, I guess she didn't know us that well), since they were thought that all Israelies are demons.

We stayed in touch for quite a while and also befriended her family. No reasos why peeps shouldn't get along on personal bassis.

Independant press in Syria? You must be joking. There is no independant press in Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia or even Jordan.

You can talk to this guy and explain your point of view, if he goes ahead and makes an ass of himself, so be it.

BTW, he's wrong—who said the US matters? :)
