I know Audi ran an LMP car that was a Diesel not that long ago at Nurburgring I think. Ran like a beast, was quiet, and got insane mileage out of its tank.
It'd be cool if they started doing electric car drag races (since an electric motor tends to put out high amounts of torque). No need for ear plugs, they'd be totally silent!
