Crouwel, you make a good point and you're right, it is a particular form of self-consciousness - in the sense of reflecting on how one comes across - but my initial statement to v4 was in regards to some kind of fear, or insecurity, which is how he implied it. I very consciously try not to come across as arrogant or conceited or smug - I have no reason to be this way - and my conscious choice is one of not creating the sense that I'm better than anyone - because I'm not. So that is not on the same level as someone who says, I'm going to show off my abs for the world so everybody can say, damn, look how ripped that guy is.

Now, this is way too much psychoanalysis for a stupid thread, but I will add one additional thing. This is a false statement too:

" i honestly would not give a flying fuck what people think about me, as long as i feel good with it."

I understand the point you are making, but the truth is, you do care what other people think of you, maybe not in a working out example, but in other aspects of your life. Why do you dress a certain way, or present work a certain way? Why do you treat people a certain way? Of course because you feel good about it, but how you feel about it is in some way reflective of how you've been conditioned to feel, even if it's subconsciously.

Anyway, that's enough for me. As always, I enjoy your insights.

    Cheers.
