it's a beautiful place. i don't know pomorie, i've only ever been to sofia, plovdiv and the valley of the roses and thracian kings and then out to a little resort on the black sea near varna. all of this was for my sister's wedding, so there wasn't much unstructured time and i didn't really have to plan any of it.
the valley of roses is cool, if only for being the primary producer of rose attar in the world - singlehandedly supplying the entire perfume industry. you can get rose petal jam and rose liquor there. sofia and plovdiv both have a lot of history and some interesting architecture. plovdiv has an old roman ampitheatre.
the food is good if you like sausage and shropska. my biggest piece of advice would be to get a little phrasebook unless you've got a translator. very few people speak english (this, of course, might have changed in the past two years) and you'll need a bit of help getting by, especially because bulgarians shake their heads for yes and nod for no.
have fun!
