You are way to young to be cynical. Anyway, nothing wrong with being a boom operator aka person holding long stick with mic.
Rejection sucks no matter what. Loads of people can tell you're an attractive girl, but at the moment that won't help you.
The guy is clearly not right for you. In some weeks, when you will pick yourself up and your bruised ego is slightly recovered by the hundreds of NT nerds drooling over your pics, you will understand this is absolutely for the better.
Better and bigger fish are out there... don't settle for anything less.
