    best of luck Mayo

the mat leave contract is a blessing...gives you a large chunk of billing to treat as a nest egg against any possible lean times..

    1) remember that companies often take their sweet time to pay...you'll wait a month sometimes after billing before you get the check..sometimes even more..

    2) it's either feast or famine...
i did the freelance thing for a year, and in that time, i had absolutely NO time off to speak of...you're always afraid to turn down any jobs, just incase they dont' call back..so you end up saying 'yes' to EVERYTHING..

and when you do that, boy...you get busy VERY quickly...

anyhow, no worries..you'll be just fine...
    and remember..
    save EVERY receipt..
put aside 20% atleast of every job for 'end of the year' tax filing..cuz ya never know..and get someone sharp to do your taxes...it's incredible what a half decent accountant can do to save you lots of cash

    other than that, enjoy yourself...
its a fun ride, and incredibly rewarding..
within a few days of freelancing, once the fear has died down and you realize you are actually going to do quite well...you get a tremendous sense of well-being and self satisfaction..

    cheers Mayo...
    enjoy!
