The "Save for wev" function in PS is awful. If throws all the colours out and zaps the contrast so it looks dull and muted. When I Save for web I expect it to be exactly the same as how I designed it. If I move over to Imageready of Fireworks the optimised image comes out just fine.
Having said that I make do to save time, but it does piss me off
