I live in Yonkers which is 25 minutes away on the train and very affordable. There is also places like Larchmont which is also not bad.

Dude, Larchmont is one step down from Scarsdale and Greenwich..although more affordable than Manhattan for sure..and only a 30 min train ride into the City
