cruz, i just sold my xl1s and picked up one of these http://www.dvxuser.com/articles/… an Pana HVX200 HD camera. i'm interested in HD, but this puppy will set you back quite a bit...
i've been a fan of canon's stuff for years, but fortunately Panasonic has been making some banging cameras since the DVX100 series came out.
my recco would be skip the Canon and save tons of money by getting a DVX100b and pick up a nice wide-angle adapter, and a telephoto. because you WILL need it for the DVX.
the canon xl & h1 series are great to show people your serious about shooting, but it's harder to set up and shoot quickly, which is what you'll want to do in most all cases. the dvx is also much smaller and VERY easy to use.
email me directly and i can give you more info, you can also go to dvinfo.net and become a member there, they will give great advice as well...
also, remember, you don't have to spend tons of money on getting a camera, the most important thing is the audio, you'll need a good boom mic and a lav or two as well, that will put you back around $600 or so...
IMO cheap camera + good audio is the way to go
