I love NGE. I have it all on dvd, but am still hanging onto the episodes that I bought used from a Japanese video rental place back in my college days.
The idea of a live action NGE movie makes me sad. I'm afraid that a lot of the Japanese cultural idioms embedded in the storyline will be lost when they Americanize the series.
They haven't said anything about casting yet, but thinking of whom they may shoehorn into the parts is truly frightening. Wynona Ryder in the Ayanami Rei role? Toby McGuire as Shinji?
