Really subjective.
I take these factors into account when I give a quote for such a job:
1) how big is he/is he making a wedge already or a start up (brutal I know but you have to think about what they can affrod)
2) Is he nice to work for
3) will the project reflect well/be the type of work I want in my book/website
4) will I get more work from him, or his collegues (a link on his site)
5) Can he do anything for me (build a CMS, etc...) Collab
6) how many concepts does he want
I take my rate at a daily amount and then think about how long (days) it will take me from Concept to completion, tweak a little and bob's ya father's brother...!
