I dont think profit has much to do with it...its just about copyright laws. For example sites like jalopnik.com link to our stories on cardesignnews.com, using our photos, and we're not sure whether its a good thing (sending some traffic our way), or whether they are just stealing our content (should we charge them for our photography?)...sometimes it isnt easy to tell, depends how you do it, and whether the source likes the way you are doing it.... so many variables... thats why you have to use your own judgement...
