'04 neuS4 runs strong. they are very good value used in the US as they take a pretty good depreciation initially, but then hold it long after.

i too am a super-audi fan and drive an S6 myself. the biggest issue w/ the C5 chassis S4 as you are looking at is the crappy K06 turbos that *will* fail.... and then pulling off the entire front end to replace/service them. this stinks, but they are under powered hairdryers anyway and you really want to go RS4 upgrade on those and in IC after all :)

i feel the S4 is an extremely reliable car.... given the performance factor you are getting for it. certainly and not to be overlooked are required maintenance on front CV joints, the turbos, front hubs (mostly a 01-03 thing) and the cost of clutch replacement. remember though when comparing these rides that this is an all wheel drive, twin-turbo'd sport sedan and *NOT* a front wheel drive, japanese non-turbo coupe. there is a big difference and for that, the issues are different.

the biggest thing is have you driven one yet? might just take those mechanical considerations and forget all about them once you have... ;)
