What is the budget?
I have a Pentax, and sadly have to say, all cameras using sony CCD sensor (Nikon, Minolta, Pentax, sony) have inferior picture quality to Canon's CMOS sensor (used by canon exclusively).
Everything looks ok when the image is well exposed, but in case of underexposure, there is still plenty of picture in dark areas in Canon images, when the other have lots of noise there.
I'd say, Canon jpg pictures are better material for post-processing than CCD sensor RAW sometimes.
