sorry to hear about the news...
if i were you, i'd find a really good accountant...they can probably figure out a way to lighten that number up a bit..so long as you still have all the paperwork..find a dude with a very sharp pencil, and a sharp mind, and pay them a few hundred bucks to figure a way out for you..
that should at the very least lighten the load several thousand..
worth a shot anyhow...might also clear up why it went from 14k to 22 or whatever...that DOES sound funny.
