think 'shelter'...then see what that conjures for you.
I'd abandon the stamped look, and try customizing Copperplate for those letters to not have those retarded serifs...
or you could just try to implement some similarly strong but more currently relevant typography, like Trade Gothic Extended or Gotham. Keep their colors, and tell them the new type is part of the whole facelift you're giving them. Would it really hurt to propose that?
