    SEO is a constantly changing entity so you have to keep yr eye on it always.

    some tips:
    use proper tags fro your code i.e h1,h2,p etc

    use Search Engine Friendly urls with htaccess's rewriteCondition

    Have unique content

    Make sure the page name, page title, h1 and p tags all use the keyword of the page.

    make sure the link to that page also has the kewyord in the link ext

    gain as many incoming links from RELATED sites as possible.

    also if possible make sure the link text has the keyword in it from the site that links to yours.

    dig around at websmaster world and you'll find huge resources

    also check out Matt Cutts (google employee)

    and GoogleGuy (google employee)

    both have useful blogs with info direct from the horses mouth
