I read about a tutor's death death this morning 3 months after it happened. Thomas MacDonald was the best teacher I ever found myself in a conversation with- and there were many. Generous, patient, apt- he was great. Changed me for the better.
"He was admired more for his intellectual brilliance and good humor than for his practical efficiency: one of his faculty colleagues, the composer Douglas Allanbrook, dedicated a “Prelude to Mr. McDonald,” with the playing instruction, “Blurred and noble, fairly slow.”
