the analogy isn't so far off the truth though bombadil, with this guy dead, another guy will step up and continue his work. I'm quite pleased on a human level that he has personally bitten the dust, but it makes little difference to the situation ultimately.

The problem with this statement is you imply then that nothing should be done.

Do I? I don't think so, you may find that that is your interpretation.

If that's not the case then you offer no alternative solution. Pointing out the obvious deflates his death being an accomplishment for the better.

That is my point though, "the better" is the bone of contention here. If someone else simply carries on his work, then its not much better is it? There is no contradiction whatsoever in not sheding a tear for this guys death, and not seeing what a great achievement it is or what great change it will create.

I don't know if you have really been to Iraq to witness this situation yourself or not, but I do know a very old, very close friend who has, and has been regularly mortar bombed for his trouble (and paycheque).

His views on this are really pretty far from yours, I'm sure he's celebrating this guys death, but I'm also sure he still knows, without a doubt, that the military ocupation is futile and only making things worse (as he told me).

remember its not just americans who are being killed in that country, mate. You don't have a monopoly on that.
