best bet is to hit a library with national and international newspapers on file (physically there in the building I mean). The big US papers like the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, LA Times etc. are all very well organized, with extremely well-considered typography, but they represent traditional newspaper design
I'd say newspaper design in general could use a new approach – Try and push some cool typefaces or a bit of color in the headlines maybe?
