  It's warranted. It's an extension of the Judeo/Christian mythos which started in the book of Job. Satan uses Job to test God's resolve and intention with his creation(mankind). So the Theological lesson here is that mankind is special because by faith and obediance God will be proven sovereign to the fallen angels. The same could be said within the Gospels where Satan tempts Jesus in the desert.
