Yes, many Christians do believe that the end of the world is coming and that they will witness it. However I'm not sure how this demonstrates a delusion of self-importance. The message of the Bible is one which is contrary to an attitude of self-importance - i.e. that we are a fallen race which is spiritually bankrupt and that there's nothing we can do about our condition. This message is contrary to that of world religions which teach a performance-based system of righteousness which glorifies the religious accomplishments of the individual.
"God is justifying his own sovereignty through the obediance and significance of mankind." - This is nothing more than an unwarranted assumption. You certainly won't find this communicated in the scriptures. Rather, we read of a God whose sovereignty remains established & unwavering regardless of the condition, or decisions of his creatures.
