If you haven't already, check out craigslist.org and see what they have. Some days are crap, others are gold. I've found two GREAT apartments through craigslist. Both have been less than $800/month (mind you I've had a roommate both times). But I've found some great quality places, big rooms, granite counters, wood floors, fireplaces, etc. No pool though...I'm on the hunt.
Oh, and my suggestion would be to only check out the listings with photos. If it looks nice it just might be. Request more pictures if you can't see it for yourself.
