1700 isn't really considered cheap in LA. I think maybe NY peeps put more towards rent because they don't have to drive. 1700 will get you a really nice one bedroom or maybe even a small two bedroom in Santa Monica, but prepare for the car payment / auto insurance.. u need a car in LA mos def
