jevad, don't read this if you don't wanna be more confused.
anyway, the electromagnetism of the island is legit - at least in some ways (turning a key shouldn't shut it off)... perhaps it's an electromagnetic shield of some kind to keep the island hidden so no one can find it? the key turning disabled the shield , hence why the sky went violently white and how the island could be detected.
as to why penny was looking for desmond, i'd imagine there's some sort of tracking device on the boat. OR libby was working with the hanso foundation (she has connections with desmond and hurley prior to the island and the guy spouting the numbers was at hte same ward, so that makes sense if she was a plant). anyway a tracking device would be disabled until the electromagnetic shield went down.
as for the others i'm still clueless as to who they really are. but it's fairly obvious they're not living in huts.
