Here are my thoughts:
I think that Penny Widmore's search has NOTHING to do with Desmond. Like some of you say, I think she's searching for something with the electromagetism - remnants of projects her family's company worked on? Other reasons?
Think about the role of fate on the show - it's big. It would be fate if Penny Widmore were brought back to Desmond (if he's not dead) through something else - like finding an island where Widmore Construnction built things.
I don't think she's looking for the sailboat, or Desmond, or a tracker or anything related to him. I think she's looking for "electromagnetic anomolies." Why, exactly, I'm not sure. But it certainly sets up many potential angles for the next season.
It's bugging me that many people have taken the "Penelope searching for Desmond" theory so quickly. I bet it has absolutely ZERO to do with that.
