we're creating design that communicates an idea for our client
we're consulting on how best to reach the right people, and how best to connect with them in order to accomplish pre-determined goals
if we're doing a good job of differentiating our clients from their copetitors, then the work won't look like anything else that's already out there
if artistic elements support those efforts, great, but otherwise, there should be no confusion between client-driven design and art – even if the art is created in Illustrator and Photoshop
