So, what should a beginner like me get? I want a mountain bike, I'll be attempting this new hobby here in the lovely southwestern US (hiking is getting a little stale on the smaller loops)... what should a completely stupid person like me who has never owned a mountain bike start with? I went to a shop 4 days ago and talked to a guy that works there, and it was kind of like, "you can buy this, this or this within this price range", but with no rhyme or reason. He really didn't even ask me any questions and I felt like I had to lead the conversation, and I really didn't get much feedback from that...
So, what should a beginner look at? I'm 32, 240lbs., so I doubt I'll be looking to do any tricks or drops; just need a bike to learn on...
Also, what are some good trails? All this bike talk, where should I go ride?
