got caught in traffic, arrived in NY later than expected. Got a street space directly across from Moma, went in for an hour. Saw the giant Jennifer Bartlett, printed works in the current decorative mode, graphic works in the permanent design collection. But the most beautiful surface I saw all day was a dumpster in Chelsea with an indescribable patina of rust, spray paint and stickers, which I fully documented with my d70, next to some giant black drag queens from covenant house. It was probably the most beautiful spring day I have ever experienced in the city. We had a wonderful but not great dinner at August, sparkling wine to start, chianti classico, tarte flambe, dressed leg of lamb with wilted greens, fresh mint, fava beans, crostini. On the way back to the car we passed the newly opened chelsea restaurant Buddakan, which had the best signage I've ever seen.
