No I don't live in North Van, Kits actually, but I make it over to the shore as often as I can.
Mountain Biking in Vancouver is great, but it can take just as long to get to North Van as it does to get to East Kananaskis.
I'm not slamming Vnacouver, I love it here, but I found the Rocky mountains to be much more accessable than the Coast Ranges.
In Calgary, you can drive through the mountains, pull off to the side of the road, scramble up a mountain that is way above treeline and make it back home in time for dinner. Weekends are bliss.
In Vancouver, because of its climate and elevation, you have to bushwack for hours and cover great distances to get to a peak that's just above treeline.
Of course, If I had more vacation time I wouldn't have any problems. I would have time for a few days of trekking, but that's another topic altogether.
