    French is latin like italian, spanish or portuguese.

    living in a French speaking country, like France or Belgium [ike I did] really shortens your learning curve.

    Either that, or you'll die starving.

    I also took Latin and I would agree that it's REALLY similar to French and English, as a few other languages are. Living in a french-speaking area helps out too. Maybe start in Quebec where the French is more like franglais (eng + fr) and then move to France...if you really are that serious about it...
