Across town, Braque was obsessively scrubbing the sidewalk outside his basement flat, making sure he always faced east. The scrubber has was using was so worn it looked slanted, but Georges refused to rotate it, believing it to be bad luck.
The neighbors by now knew better than to disturb him, and chose to make wide circles around him, or even to cross the street.
