Crescent Moon and Star.. on the Left hand? You sure? I would think that represents Islam .. but, if so, I wouldn't expect it on the left hand (the 'traditionally filthy' hand).
Unless he's an[other] fundamentalist Chrisitan, of which there seem to be many.
