    open door suggesting possibility right? the company wants a sense of come through our door and we'll open things up for you including doors which closed. So potential seen and defined is what they are peddling.
    I agree that the yr initial literal handling of the "door" did not read well, almost more book than door mostly because an open door would be unfilled. Running a dark grey for door and a lighter for the opening doesn't suggest the possibility of passage or if you could walk through it the room would be dark (?) so the wrong sense of what the company is selling.

    The suggestions you go simple shapes makes sense if you can boil the idea behind "open door" rather than the hackneyed common expression of it.

    potential
    promise
    passage
    seamless transition

    all these ideas are conveyed by the words. Maybe word mark is the way to go.
    Just don't abbreviate Open Doors.
