i tried gimp didnt like it because the UI tries to be windows mac and linux reason why most people hate it is they use photoshop and unless it has the same workflow its hard to like it but someone who is picking up a program like that for the first time might like it more cause hes more willing to learn it...
Paint.NET is nice and free...prob with open source is they dont have there own vision for what the program should be and how it should work open source to me is mostly copies of whats been done but not aswell... not all Open source programs but pretty much... people who make things should reference things already made it will make you stop thinking about how it could work...
