Although the idea of a new, certified Shelby is bitchin, I'm really disappointed in Ford styling. The top 1/2 of the front grill flares out so much that it pushes the headlights out to fisheye, google-eye proportions.

Then the shoulders and back end are so high that they have to crop the fashion shots so the ground plane slopes up at the front. I understand the design criteria the sylists are facing, having to include a trunk that fits 600 bags of golf clubs and a large Coleman cooler full of light beer, but where are the clean lines of say, the Mini?

The pervasive large American rear (people, cars, whatever) and all these blocky wheel arch flares are taking over Chrysler cars too (not that they've had a decent body style for 1/2 a century now). Maybe it appeals to the middle-aged market here, like the dork in his 'Hemi" with the 'Hemi8' license tag I saw shoot out from a stoplight yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ford-Lincoln Mercury had Detomaso styling for a nanosecond in the early Pantera, and developed the GT40. They shoulda stuck to it instead of putting all their money into the Explorer.

    *whew*
