all I know is that people are psyched about google because it gives them hope that the dotcom age will come back and stay. This is obvious.
also, they're biting at apple's cult status, except they're friendly rather than holy. All it comes down to is their logo and the happy shiny umpah lompahs whom they saved from the doldrums and would bleed for the place. Once it slows down, merging with yahoo would be badass.
I've had the same dynamic carry out in my own life. I am still experiencing mastubatory afterglow 20 minutes after the deed. I will end up hating my hand job within the hour. I will likely get bored and create a spinoff. I will give lefty a whirl.
