I've said it before and I'll say it again: Your users may not be average...
Our online magazine targeting a professional car designers and design students has around 10% on 800x600 and dropping (we dont care what other sites are getting...it doesnt matter!)
....and the people on 800x600 arent the ones that are going to pay us money (they can scroll a bit!)... we prefer to optimize for the bigger number of professional users who are on sizes like 1920x1200... (the ones with money!)
