    hi friend.

quoting projects can be the hardest thing in an independent designers life. there are a few guidelines that i follow in my practice:

    1. establish my hourly rate, and estimate how long it would take me in hours. use that to generate a flat rate.

    2. but before that, try to get her to give you a complete spec...how much stuff she wants in that, what features, anything that might be considered "overhead expenses".

    3. be willing to negotiate. perhaps allow the client to pay in installments or barter for goods, services, or promotion if that seems appropriate.

Otherwise, everything else I know comes from experience and I am still learning.

My golden rule though is to not accept less than i know its worth in terms of product value or my time. it hurts me, and all other designers out there trying to get they hustle on when someone charges $200.00 for a flash site that does not work properly.
