Vai was employed by Frank Zappa himslef when he was 19 to transcribe music that no-one else could.
He was credited with 'impossible guitar parts' on zappa's album.
Playing Frank's music is the one place where I think Vai is relevant. Especially is people like Terry Bozzio are playing too!
