Congrats on the purchase. As for your mods question check out what others who have that car have done. Some good. Some bad. Just browse through:

I'd start with the basic 3: Air Intake, Headers and Exhaust.
That will grab you anywhere from 50-60 HP.
I just saw a commercial for the new Mitsu EVO 7. It's growing on me. But I don't think I would pay 30,000 for it. Alot of other cars out there for that price.
