yeah i hear what you're saying about coming up with loads of ideas but not executing some of them.
some of mines are executed.others arent executed due to my technical abilities on the html side of things.
i definitely thing that scrutinising ideas is the surefire way to lose the simplicity of something.
at college i used to always get a bollocking for not doing sketchbooks (thats something you are meant to have as they make up so much of your mark - to show your thinking and leading up to an idea).
ive always found that when i erad a brief that an idea will pop into my head or even a snippit of an idea. and no matter how many other routes i go down or however many alternatives i try, i'll always end up going back to that idea that was in my head first as it'll be the strongest.
