Ottawa is perfect if you want something in between both Montreal and Toronto (literally and figuratively).
It's been quite quiet in the past but more events have been coming over here. Basically, it's a good place if you're just looking to be somewhere quiet, but somewhere that you can do some fun stuff in once in a while as well.
People do complain that it's boring here. If you do find that, then just find something to do (you can) or drive to Toronto or Montreal, which aren't that far away at all.
This winter has been really strange, but the seasons are all their own. You'll get extremes of all 4 seasons within the year.
