I think you are onto something sair but I don't think it is particularly about marriage. I think people who get married nowadays are doing so more because they want to rather than have to as it was 20-30 years ago.
I think there is a trend in our culture to treat everything as throwaway or instant, and this relates to relationships too.
It's an interesting concept you have, I would just push it a bit further in other directions.
